ZIMBO FILM Xposed

Written by Agnes Julianna Gava

It has been the general notion that the Zimbabwean film industry is literally dead and non-existent. Well, we beg to differ on that view because Zimbabwe has a lot of talent and passion for the creation of internationally recognised film productions. Apart from poor promotion, the film industry also suffers an inadequate number of film critics and or reviewers. I find that due to my experience as an arts student, I no longer watch a movie in the same way that I used to, I always seem to unconsciously analyse every aspect of the film which includes both the technical and per formative sides. What I’m getting at here is that to some extent we all deem ourselves as critics of film and perhaps this is because of our individual tastes and preferences.
We cannot run away from the fact that a film reviewer is a vital piece in the whole process of making and promoting a film. A culture needs to be developed where the film industry in Zimbabwe breeds reviewers who are there to analyse films after and even before they are released so as to give the consumers insight on whether to buy or watch the film. In some western countries people do not watch a film until they have seen a review of it in order to know who is starred in the film, its genre, production house, director and many another things.Another way of looking at it is that the critic/ reviewer acts as a medium for the exposition of the film and as such the public gets to know about the existence of certain production houses and various films being produced in the country. It is high time that Zimbabweans have a platform where all locally produced films are exposed on the global platform, perhaps this will stir the artists and producers to take the art professionally because of the competition on the global market for quality productions.
Expect all the critical film news, updates, and follow ups from this platform. I am sure you will be as thrilled as I was to discover the vast masses of film and I’m talking about comedy, action, drama produced in Zimbabwe that have just come and gone without mere recognition. The Zimbabwe Film industry is growing and Xposé is here to expose this development and growth.
